Member of the wrenching experimental outfits Form a Log and Social Junk, yet mainly known for his venturesome take on contemporary industrial music as Profligate, here comes a more straightforward addition to Philadelphia’s Noah Anthony discography. Live recorded back in 2014, the four tracks making up for his first release on the label swelters the urgency in hustling conventions and sketch new ones. Ranging from jerky filtered beat driven tunes to much more hostile squealing pieces, Extremities highlights the clash amidst spasmodic rhythms and to-the-ground bass lines, brawling in an unforgiving pneumatic electro and concrète tussle. Utterly unpredictable, stretching body-music dissonance and boorish experiment, Anthony’s placid control feels as grotesque as confident, the whole release setting a contemporary look on modern electronic music — in between enjoyable aggression and permissive ingenuity.
